Welcome to/Croeso i
Llwyn Celyn bach
The Campsite in Llanberis
Llanberis is to be one of the villages visited by the Olympic Torch. Travelling to the summit by train on 29th May 2012.
Welcome to our webpage.
We hope you will enjoy looking at this website, it is an on going project, as is the campsite itself.
This is the ideal campsite for walking Snowdon and exploring Snowdonia. Snowdon can be walked straight from camp. The campsite boasts an amazing view of the North west face of Snowdon and many of the surrounding mountains.
We welcome backpackers, walkers/hikers and climbers, and all who want to come and enjoy Snowdonia.
Generally suitable for any respectful outdoor type, not wanting 5 star facilities or a clubhouse, we just provide basic campsite facilities, with a panoramic view!
We do not welcome rowdy groups, you will be turned away or kicked off site, and it may be hard to find somewhere else to stay if its late! We do not mind chatting around the campfire, and guitar playing etc, but no music, loud laughter, shouting from tent to tent etc after 10pm thanks. We also want you back on site before 10pm if you have been down in the village, and to walk back up the hill quietly, thanks.
For 2012 groups will need to book and pay in advance to limit numbers. A noise bond may also need to be paid.
Strictly no fireworks or Chinese Lanterns to be used on this campsite. They are a hazard to other campers, the surrounding heathland, farm and livestock.
We welcome D of E groups, scout/guide groups, and don't mind you hugging the radiator in the drying room! Or putting your wet boots on it. Our OS number is SH573595. Especially for D of E groups we have held the price at £4 again for another year.
Also a popular finishing place for 3 peakers.
The campsite is situated on a working mountain farm.
Set 600 feet above sea level the site has panoramic views of Snowdon, surrounding mountains and Llyn Padarn. You can see the peak from the site, weather permitting, of course!
The campsite has been improved in the early 2000's, from what used to be just a toilet and a cold tap, into a more camper friendly site. We have added toilets and showers, hot and cold wash facilities, a laundry/drying room, and a small kitchen area with fridge and freezer. There are also electric points for phone charging, hairdrying, blowing up air beds etc.
2 Hook up points are available for campervans, these must be pre booked though, and there is a seperate area for family tents with hookup.
The campsite being on farmland is a more traditional basic style campsite, it works on a ''find your own pitch'' basis, there are no specific numbered pitches. There are several fields that are in use as camping fields, giving you the freedom to choose where you set up your tent.
As we are a working farm, animals and farm work take priority, so if we are busy outside the Reception may sometimes be closed. You are welcome to just find a pitch and call back at the reception during the afternoon or evening to pay and collect a ticket.
All the facilities are easy to find. Toilets and showers are in the yard by the reception. Drinking water is available on both the house wall and on the new shower block.
During the main season reception will be open from 8am onwards, usually until about 10pm.
We have areas that can be booked for private parties, ranging from a small garden type area, to whole fields. Campfires are not allowed on the small areas, and only in the fire pits on the larger areas.
Our plans for this year, are to finish our disabled toilet and shower block, it is now open but still needs some cosmetics.
These include more wash facilities, extra showers and toilets, and an elsan disposal point.
Llwyn Celyn Bach is just on the border of the Snowdonia National Park, it is at the foot of Snowdon, making it an ideal base camp for walking Snowdon and the surrounding mountains. Once here you will not need to drive to access 2 of the Snowdon walking routes, they will be right on your doorstep. As well as quieter mountain and moorland walks, avoiding the crowds on Snowdon.
The campsite is accessed via Llanberis village centre itself. Llanberis is the most facilitated village at the base Snowdon giving freedom and choice of pubs and places to eat. Being only half a mile down the road, it's just a 5 minute walk away from the main village centre, ideally sited for exploring this ever popular town. Small word of warning though, it is quite a steep hill back up!
We are situated in one of the more rugged, yet beautiful areas of Wales. With miles of freedom at our doorstep, or rather gateway, you can choose to explore the mountains and moors or go for the plentiful tourist attractions, which are numerous and varied in theme throughout the area. More on these on the ''The Area'' page.
It is part of a mountain farm, Hafod Lydan, which is in the Snowdonia National Park, mainly farming Welsh Mountain sheep, a few rare breed sheep and mixed breed beef cattle. We also have free range hens ducks geese and turkeys. Mixed and rare breed pigs. The sheep graze on Moel Eilio, which can be walked straight from camp, the pigs are kept outdoors but not near the campfield. If you would like to see them just ask. If you do feed or touch the animals that are in the garden area make sure you wash your hands with soap and water afterwards. Thankyou.
You are welcome to explore all around the upper farmland, including the lake, and the surrounding area. More on the walks page.
As it is part of a working farm we do ask you to be careful if bringing young children or dogs.
Please could all children small and not so small be accompanied at all times. We have no play facilities for children.
Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept on a leash and under control at all times, please clean any poop's up and bag and bin it.
People bringing dogs are asked to go on to the Top Field only, and outer fields during busy periods, dogs are no longer allowed on lower field or garden nearest reception. Make sure they are up to date with innoculations and have been wormed. They must also be kept on leads whilst on the campfields, please don't expect everyone staying on the campsite to like or trust dogs, thanks.
You can walk Snowdon straight from the campsite, without the need to find parking anywhere, which in itself can take for ages at busy times of the year. You can either pick up the Llanberis path or take a different route and join the Snowdon Ranger Path, details are available on the walks page or at the reception(good idea to print route directions out before coming). Another alternative is to get the sherpa bus from the village, and ride to Pen Y Pass, walk the PYG or the Miners up and come down the Llanberis or Ranger route back to base.
Extra large groups can also be catered for, 50+people, they need to book and pay in advance.
All groups of 20 or more should contact us before staying, or if you have five or more tents in a group, and would like to be pitched near each other. There is a limit on number of groups we accept at one time so make sure you email or call first.
No groups are allowed on the lower fields, unless by arrangement, and pitches are allocated on arrival.
For groups see new policy text at top of page, we do welcome well behaved groups, for 2012 ...... NO GROUPS unless booked and paid in advance. (May include noise bond) Any comments welcome by email!
Wild camping pitches can also be provided.
